Oh Sammy, my Sammy, my sweet little kitten.
If you want to live, stay the HELL out'a my kitchen.

In other news I almost dropped a knife on Sammy's tail because he yowled at my feet just as I was grabbing it. Little bugger. I usually keep the door closed while I'm in there but apparently I didn't close it tight enough.

I am the proud owner of a new mountain bike! It's all shiny, black and blue - the color of bruises. The office is on high alert - if I don't show up by 10am Tuesday they can assume I've been smeared across two or three intersections and can start the inter-office auction for all my stuff.

On that note, if I do die a horribly painful death, that means someone else will have to do the demo class on Tuesday afternoon. Apparently the demos Ed and I did last weekend were successes - out of 38 students, 26 parents signed up for our classes immediately after, and the school agreed to the contract with us for weekly sessions. Yay us! So now I have to go to a school in the Huangpu district - only this time it's grade 2's. Same deal - if the parents and the school board is impressed, we get the contract. If we get the contract, we get more money. More money means Mandy is justified in asking for her yearly raise.  Why yes, I think about contract negotiations WAAAAAY in advance.

Work is insane. Seriously. I love traveling but the reports are a killer. Not to mention solving any and everyone's problems via email - when I'm not scheduled to be at another school, I'm in the office trying not to drown under reports while answering roughly 15 emails a day (and while this sounds easy, remember these are teachers sending questions about how to handle various situations in their schools - I have yet to send a reply that was under 3 pages in length). If I could use those emails for Nanowrimo, I'd have hit the 50k benchmark already. I also had to teach my SClass today (which I adore, love and thoroughly enjoy), attempt to prep for next week, fail, and tun instead to finish typing up the agenda for next weeks Hell Week - November Installment. Yes, workshop week is upon us again, and a week early I might add. Yay. YAY. Can you feel my excitement? I ask ya.

I didn't even get a chance to read LJ this week - came home to pass out essentially. Had dinner with Jo at Cali's Pizza Kitchen because THEY CLOSED MY BLUE FROG. *sob* I've lost my 2nd HOME. No more strawberry frogeritas! I LOST MY SEXY BARTENDER WHO STARTED MAKING MY DRINK AS SOON AS HE SAW ME.

Never you mind there are still 6 more locations in Shanghai. This particular Blue Frog has been mine for 3 years and I never saw this closure coming. I am utterly heartbroken.

......and I see what I must now do. I am hoping that they have merely relocated the wait and bar staff. I must go on a pilgrimmage to every remaining Blue Frog location in Shanghai to find the best strawberry frogeritas - and hopefully my sexy bartender,

.....wow, those tangents. That BF tale of woe was a long-winded way of me telling you I gave up after skip 220 in going through my flist, so if I've missed anything important, be sure to let me know.

I did however, have some time in between meeting teachers at the office for extra training and did some writing for Nano. Behold my word count!

5191 / 50000 words. 10% done!

....yeah, okay. Still needs work. Meh.

Nanowrimo Blues and Greens

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 11:58 AM
Yeah, I've been busy with my Nanowrimo novel. I actually got the wave of sensation like "Wow, maybe I WILL actually get to finish this." or least come very close.
Now the word count is...1,139. Yay, I broke a thousand :P
Plus I can do some writing later tonight when I get home. (and don my silk robe with the peacocks on 'em, lol)
Now I'm starting to get other ideas for stories like...a continuation of the MST3K movie "Final Sacrifice" that has Troy and Rowsdower out solving mysteries and battling evil in the wilds of Canada but I'm like "ARGH, stop distracting me!" as wickedly awesome as that idea sounds. Maybe next year ;)

LOL, but yeah. I also have a paper due on the 7th of December about Renaissance humanists and Machiavelli. YUS. I don't think Nanowrimo will keep me TOO busy but I don't want to let it occupy all of my time, plus there's assuming I want to edit in December and not let Patricia and Tina scissor each other and die, bwahaha. No, I'm kidding, they're great. xP

Um, that's about it, really.

Nanowrimo word count:

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 1:57 AM

3938 / 50000 words. 8% done!

I feel accomplished.

....why yes, I'm still at work. So what?

Nanowrimo time again!

  • Nov. 2nd, 2009 at 9:57 PM
And I've got almost 4000 words done.  Who else is doing it this year?

I just posted my Oct 31 write up in [info]adayinmylife . If it's accepted, I'll post the link here.

Ru went to the vet today to get her x-rays done. She's doing extremely well - no treatments necessary except continuing the fish oil tablets in her food, and no more 6 month x-rays needed! Today was her 4th over a 18mth period and she's shown nothing but reduction in the jagged buildups in her hip bones. YAY!

The best part? I asked in advance how much the vet would cost. Two plates for the x-rays, Revolution treatment, bottle of pills, checkup - it should have come to almost 1200RMB (almost $200CAD). The bill came to 570RMB ($75CAD roughly).

Me: "Are you sure? You know she had x-rays and everything."
Receptionist: "Yeah, we only took one plate this time and we charged you as the '2nd pet'."
Me: *jaw drops* "OMG THANK YOU."

2nd pet means exactly that - you pay a base fee for your first pet and a nominal fee for every pet after that (so if you bring 3 animals, the first base fee would be 300rmb plus 150rmb for each animal after that). I had brought Yuki, an SCAA animal that I don't pay for (he's having stomach issues and explosive bowel movements) and so they counted him as my first animal (which they normally wouldn't due b/c the SCAA pays the bigger fee) but they also know how broke I am and so they did this for me. I will never expect it, but I was extremely grateful for it.

I went to lunch with Angeline today. We left Ru and Bitsy (her Scotty dog) in her apartment and went to Applebee's on Xingeng road. It was SO GOOD. Mini-burgers, french fries, Ceasar salad, and strawberry margaritas!!

Life is good. :D

Nanowrimo Blues

  • Nov. 1st, 2009 at 10:13 AM
I get the feeling my foray into Nanowrimo is doomed again this year.
I have this research paper in English about capital punishment plus next week I need to start registering for classes.
It just a crappy situation all around (for me)
Its not possible but Nanowrimo should have been last month and maybe then I'd be able to finish it.

On the brighter side, a 1940's tag on Lastfm, yaaay for '40s blues and big band :)
I'm such an old music-loving nerd. *shakes head*

Writer's Block: Who will you be?

  • Oct. 31st, 2009 at 3:28 PM

What are you going to be for Halloween this year? Are you going to wear coordinating costumes with a friend or partner? Did you buy something pre-fab or make it yourself?

I'm going as any generic '80s hair metal rocker guy. The great thing about that is almost half the stuff (tight shirts with skulls on 'em, bandanas, boots, armbands) Angus has already so all me and Mom went to get at Party City was spandex-y leopard print tights. Also, I'm hoping my Mom knows how to do the teasing and spraying to make it look all tall and poofed up.

I'm literally getting all dressed up with no place to go, 'cept with the boys trick-or-treating. FEH. And unlike last year, I don't have Eric to keep me company. :(

Turns out, Carter Family is good (in a bluegrass kind of way) The next song I'm learning in my guitar book is "Wildwood Flower". Eep.
